Forensic Document Examination
Document examination employs various investigative techniques to establish the authenticity or origin, identify the writer or detect an alteration of said document. Different techniques are used in the comparison of handwriting, hand printing, commercial printing, photocopies, papers, inks or typewriting, to detect an alteration.
Contested documents may include: wills, codicils, checks, credit card slips, deeds, medical records, real estate records, tax records, contracts, mortgages, loan agreements, rental agreements, account records, marital records, time sheets, election petitions, graffiti, anonymous and threatening letters, hate mail, and others.
Victims of fraud or forgery often use the services of a Handwriting Expert to prove the authenticity of an autograph or signature. Forensic Document Examiners often work cases involving artificially placed signatures, faxed documents, cut and pastes, and other electronically produced or altered documents.
Document Examiners also assist attorneys by providing their opinion on a case, demonstrating their findings in a Court of Law and are well prepared to support their findings under cross-examination. Document Examiner’s expertise often helps win the case.
